.... for now at least.... (maybe a divorce from CI is a GOOD thing after all.. they didn't seem to want to pust the throtle where it needed be anyway)... but still a damn shame to see it end for now....
Mike Foley and I just learned about this in the last week.
Basically, WWE decided that in 2008 they will be selling the gaming license to another company as they're hoping a new publisher will bring in more sales.
Overall, though, this is should be seen as good news for you, the Raw Deal player.
The only real negative is that Revolution 4ever will not be coming out now in early 2008.
The positives are legion:
A new company (especially the one that I believe will be getting the license) will have the money behind it to do all the things everyone has been begging of Comic Images: more advertising in gaming publications, WWE magazines, WWE online, and WWE PPVs. Plus, cross- promotions with other WWE products will more likely happen with a company bigger than CI.
Plus, for those of you who play other non-Raw Deal games, there is another benefit: since Mike and I own the Raw Deal engine, you may see it now turn up in other games which will make the industry more exciting and your purchases more worthwhile. Obviously whether it's a game like UFS, VS, or some other future game -- many would do well with the Raw Deal engine.
Also, while the new company in 2008 will be able to make a WWE CCG, realize it won't have the Raw Deal engine barring them coming to a deal with Mike and I. Naturally, I believe they will, as they'll want to keep a good thing going.
Ultimately, it's a small stutterstep in what is a huge journey. While there is the one negative (Rev 4's delay) pretty much everything everyone's been begging CI to do but they couldn't do will be accomplished by the new company.
I imagine there will be some huge news in store for all of you sometime early in 2008 and that by the spring you'll see Raw Deal will be in better shape than ever before.
