... answers to what you would do if you were this guy:
(taken purely from the NJDevs off topic forum)
Okay. Here is a philosophical gem parable that was given to me by my Grade 11 English teacher and it has stuck with me for years.
There is a submarine with 12 men at the bottom of the ocean. The submarine suffers a major malfunction and cannot rise to the surface. They radio for help, but the nearest vessel that would be able to help them in this situation is four days away. Any attempt to leave the submarine would instantaneously crush the person due to the pressure. The captain and the two senior officers take measurements of the air in the sub and they realize that there is barely enough oxygen in the sub to survive two days.
The captain thinks it best not to inform the crew, or he would incite panic. Instead he goes about his duties as per normal and not worry the crew too much. That evening the captain helps out in the preparation of the meals for the crew. He places deadly poison in the meals of 5 of the single men and his own food. Soon after eating their meals, those that had the poisoned meals went into convultions and died. The 6 on board with families back home were left with just enough oxygen to last until the rescue ship arrived.
When the men informed their superior officers of what happened on board, the captain was given a dishonourable discharge and an uncerimonal burial.
Was what he did right?
