(I think Brian needs to read this !)
If you agree that misery enjoys company, then Chiefs fans might find some solace in knowing there is despair in other NFL cities, such as in Miami, Tampa and San Francisco, all of whose teams also fall into the 0-3 category.
And remember it wasn't that long ago that the Bucs won a Super Bowl, the 49ers were winning Super Bowl after Super Bowl and the Dolphins were a perennial playoff contender.
But all those teams are coping with a lost season as well, though we would agree the 49ers didn't exactly have high hopes.
Columnist Dan Le Batard of the Miami Herald wrote of the Dolphins: "This team is cursed, as in haunted. The Miami Dolphins don't need a quarterback. What they need is an exorcism…
"Sunday night was something between awful and Apocalyptic, and it shouldn't surprise you today if Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor come down with intestinal parasites, Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison get concussed by raining frogs and practice gets canceled by a typhoon of black rain and seven million locusts."
Even Thomas empathized with Dolphins fans, the few who braved the rain Sunday night, by saying, "I wouldn't come to the game. Boring games. They ought to boo the whole time. Why would you pay for a ticket? I wouldn't."
The Tampa Tribune's Joey Johnston wrote of Sunday's Bucs loss: "Black Sunday. Three games in, and already the season is gone. Anybody who thinks the Bucs can turn this thing around is delusional….It was a night the Bucs got exposed for what they are — non-contenders…The Bucs are old and slow….Two years after winning a Super Bowl, (this) team is in full free-fall."
The once-proud 49ers have perhaps sunk the lowest, getting shut out Sunday for the first time in 420 games.
Noted Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle: "And so in one pleasantly sunny afternoon in one of the nicest football stadiums ever built, the 49ers' 0-2 season took a sharp turn for the worse. They went from being regarded as one of the league's best 0-2 teams to ranking among the worst of the 0-3 teams.
"A week ago the talk in 49erland was about the team's upside. Now the chat is all about the team's downside, or backside, or upside-down side. In a league where parity runs deep, the 49ers now seem to have a chance to be really bad."
